Appearance

“Clothes and manners do not make the man; but, when he is made, they greatly improve his appearance.”

— Henry Ward Beecher

As an instructor, you are part of a highly visible group and an important link between big sky’s guests and the resort. It is important that you have a clean, well-groomed, professional appearance. With that comes the expectation of the highest level of professional communication. From the way you conduct your class, to the comments you make to students and parents, you are in the spotlight. For this reason, be careful to speak to your students, especially children, with respect and tact.

Conventional beards, mustaches and goatees are acceptable. Facial hair needs to be no longer than 15mm or a #5 guard.  When wearing a helmet, hair should be pulled back so that it is safe and neat. Dyed hair is acceptable if it is a natural color.

Tattoos: Only tattoos which are not offensive or scary may be visible. Tattoos on neck, face, and hands/fingers are not allowed or must be covered.

Headwear: only resort branded, affiliate branded (The North Face, Helly Hansen, PSIA-AASI), or non-branded headgear that compliments the uniform is permitted. Acceptable colors are red, blue, black, white and gray. All hats are to be worn in the way they were designed. (i.e. baseball caps with the bill to the front).
